Blom Maritime AS is a subsidiary of Blom ASA, which was founded by the hydrographer Ole H Blom in 1954. Blom Maritime AS is located in Stavanger, Norway.

The company offers a broad range of services including hydrographic surveying, chart production, software development, metrology services, dimensional control, short range photogrammetry, scanning and traditional land surveying services.

Blom Maritime AS employs more than 30 highly skilled engineers and surveyors that travel worldwide to perform survey tasks for our customers. They focus on the highest quality obtainable in the shortest possible time to ensure the best achievable results and economy for their clients.

Maritime

Within the maritime segment the company offers surveying and hydrographic services, production of navigational charts, harbour charts, pipeline- and cable routes, reference levels for dredging operations and position services.

To be able to carry out detailed bathymetric surveys in shallow and narrow waters the company have equipped a survey launch, A/L Bintang, with a Simrad EM3000 multi beam echo sounder. This echo sounder covers a swath up to 3.5 times the water depth from 1m to 170m in seawater – the launch is based in Stavanger. For survey tasks in other regions, the launch can easily be transported by standard truck or by ship. It can be mobilised at very short notice. For deeper waters an EM1002 has been installed on the Nordkabel. This vessel is operated by Seaworks. Data can be delivered in various digital formats such as MicroStation, AutoCad and systemof- systems integration (SOSI).

Blom Maritime AS uses and resells the automatic seasurveying chart plotter, Olex, which is used for realtime quality control (QC) and visualisation of multibeam data acquisitions. Olex improves the safety of operations and is also used for planning, route design and other applications. Data from the multi-beam echo sounder is imported to Olex on the fly; thus enabling the onboard crew to immediately visualise the sea bed. This gives direct information about the coverage of the bed as well as three-dimensional (3-D) models. This has proven its excellence when carrying out cable- and pipe-line planning with the simultaneous data acquisition.

The Blom Position Monitoring System (PMS) and Blom Remote Positioning Monitoring System (RPMS)

Blom Maritime AS has, together with Teekay Norway AS, developed a position monitoring system (BlomPMS), to reduce risk during crude oil offloading operations. BlomPMS is a Windows based real-time data-acquisition, calculation, logging and display system designed to monitor shuttle tanker movements during the oil loading. The system interfaces to the digital pressure (DP) system and all navigational sensors on the shuttle tanker. It calculates the position and quality of the various navigation systems and displays the results on a user configurable display screen by means of various information panels. The system integrates all available positioning information and computes the best combined position for all connected systems. It also computes speed and direction over ground. The system is designed to work in cooperation with the shuttle tanker’s DP system and will, under normal working conditions, receive buoy selections and DP operation modes and alarm limits from the DP. In an emergency situation with major DP problems, the system will work independently of the DP and provide navigation information for safe ‘hands on’ manoeuvring of the shuttle tanker. Thruster information is also included.
