How do we satisfy our need for energy and sustain the environment?
Raphael Martins (p.14) – I was born in London on 15 February 1994 of Brazilian parents. I
studied at North Bridge House School and at 13 years of age entered St Paul’s School, where I
am currently in year 10. My main interest is architecture, which started when I was five years old
while visiting the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. My favourite architects include Frank O’Gehry,
Santiago Calatrava and the Brazilian Oscar Niemeyer, who I met last year in Rio de Janeiro. I also
enjoy photography, sailing and music, especially bossa nova. ■
Adam Miller (p.16) – My interests are primarily outdoor activities and I revel in playing all sports;
for example, I represent England at hockey and I am currently working towards the 2016
Olympics. I also enjoy travelling, hiking and camping. I love to excel in my studies as I thoroughly
enjoy the subjects that I am taking at A-level: geography, English, history and maths. Finally, I
play the saxophone to a high standard, and my further free time is spent establishing my ever-
increasing vinyl collection. ■
Ellie Ogilvie (p.18) – I am currently enjoying A-Level studies in maths, chemistry and biology at
St Paul’s Girls’ School, and intend to continue studying science at university. This summer I look
forward to researching catalysis at Imperial College for my Nuffield Science Bursary research
project. I enjoy playing the piano and violin in two orchestras and am currently playing a role in
the annual school musical. ■
Marcus Peabody (p.20) – At school I am working towards studying architecture or engineering,
either in the UK or at home in America. Away from academic work, I am involved in
trekking/climbing expeditions to Ecuador and the Himalayas. Closer to home I have been
expanding on an interest in analogue photography. ■
Ning Yu (p.22) – I am interested in scientific and technological developments, both of the past
and of the present; it gives me great pleasure to witness many of these changes first-hand. I also
enjoy drawing, reading and walking in my free time. ■
