Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) Preview – OTC 2010 Exhibition Is Largest in 28 Years

The 2010 Offshore Technology Conference (3–6 May at Reliant Park, Houston, Texas) will have the largest exhibition in 28 years, with indoor space in Reliant Center and Reliant Arena and an outdoor exhibition.

“We are very excited about the expansion to Reliant Arena this year. We are gaining a larger exhibition space and adding conference space for eight new topical breakfast sessions, and four technical sessions at the Arena,” said Susan Cunningham, 2010 OTC Chairperson. “The indoor exhibition area is sold out, demonstrating that OTC is the show for offshore technology. We also have 119 companies exhibiting for the first time this year, and companies from 35 countries are participating. More than 2,400 companies will be displaying the latest offshore technology.”

The strong interest in exhibiting at OTC shows that companies see the value of having a presence at the world’s largest offshore event to present their technology to an international audience and to introduce new products. Offshore professionals can in one place see the latest advances in offshore technology and learn about the real-world solutions to technical problems that they can take home and apply immediately, said Ms Cunningham.

The OTC technical conference covers a wide range of technical, business and regulatory matters, with more emphasis on a wider spectrum of energy sources, including offshore wind and ocean wave energy, ocean thermal energy conversion and gas hydrates. Breakfast presentations will cover ocean renewables and thermal energy. A number of important deepwater projects will be discussed in the technical sessions.

The reach is global, covering the deepwater ‘golden triangle’ region of the Gulf of Mexico, Brazil and Africa. Other focus areas are the Caspian Sea, United Arab Emirates and Atlantic Canada, as well as offshore construction in China. In addition to technical concerns, this conference tackles business matters with panels covering how the business environment may change, how to sustain technological innovation in periods of

volatile earnings and how oilfield service companies can manage through the current tough times towards a brighter future.

OTC will present its Distinguished Achievement Awards Luncheon on Tuesday 4 May. The keynote speaker will be Charles D (Chuck) Davidson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Noble Energy. Tickets are US$60.

Hugh Elkins will receive the OTC Distinguished Achievement Award for Individuals for his 53-year career in the oil and gas industry, including important advances in subsea drilling technology. Mr Elkins served as Director of Business Development for National Oilwell Varco before his retirement, and previously served for more than 20 years in executive engineering posts at Hydril.

Anadarko Petroleum and Enterprise Field Services will receive the OTC’s Distinguished Achievement Award for Companies, Organizations, and Institutions. The record- setting Independence Hub is recognised as an innovative collaboration to forge co-ordinated solutions to access ultra-deepwater reserves.

For the second year, the US Minerals Management Service (MMS) will present the national SAFE awards at an OTC luncheon on Thursday 6 May, recognising outstanding safety and pollution prevention performance by the offshore oil and gas industry. Tickets are US$60 each.

The OTC Spotlight on New Technology Awards are being presented to companies for innovative technology that is new and innovative, proven and of broad interest, and has a significant impact. The awards ceremony is at 4pm Monday 3 May in the Rotunda. Details about the winners will be available on the OTC website in early March.

“OTC has become such an important event for the industry. This year, we continue to innovate and offer even more for attendees. Participants will see new products and technology that can improve their results, and also can gain a greater understanding of issues facing the industry,” Ms Cunningham said.
