In this issue, Kwok L Shum from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology reviews the issues surrounding renewable energy and grid parity, whilst Tom Hopkinson Associates of Taylor Hopkinson reports on how the UK renewable energy sector continues to experience robust growth despite the challenging economic climate. Elsewhere, Christian Feisst, Managing Director of Business Development with Cisco, discusses the future of Smart Grid, while Denise Fisher and Jason Jonkman of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory shed light on the emergence of land-based wind turbines and ocean platform technology. Also within these pages, Morten B Keller, Chief Executive Officer from MAKE Consulting, looks at the changing wind energy supply chain in North Europe.
It is only space constraints that prevent me from noting the many other valuable contributions within. I hope that you find topics of interest to your own area of expertise, and enjoy content that informs, stimulates and ultimately promotes discussion on the challenges that lie ahead.
First, as the incoming Editor I would like to take this opportunity to thank my predecessor, Adam Green, for developing an ideal platform from which to disseminate timely information on the latest developments in the field of sustainable energy.
The challenges set by climate change are unparalleled in scope and, therefore, the need for the mainstream provision of clean, efficient and reliable energy is increasingly great. Against this backdrop, the raison d'être of Modern Energy Review is more poignant than ever – to endeavour to inform you, the reader, of the latest advances in technology, to provide detailed commentary on policy and bring perspective to its wider implications, and to shed light on the latest trends and projects of global significance. On this note, I would like to extend an invitation to any leading figures within the sustainable energy community who wish to submit discussions, case reports or technical articles, or indeed share their valuable experiences with the publication's readership. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss any proposals.
Dear readers Welcome to Modern Energy Review.
