Penelope Comans, Editor

Dear readers I am pleased to introduce the OTC 2011 Edition of Exploration & Production – Oil & Gas Review.

A potent combination of forces have met in early 2011, driving oil prices to record highs – indeed, at the time of writing, market open crude registered at US$106.

The upturn in demand generated by the emergence from deep recession of many leading Western economies has been further compounded by unrest in the Middle East. Certainly, over the coming months the oil and gas sector – along with the rest of the world – will be monitoring developments closely.

In this issue we cover a range of policy and technical developments in the upstream oil and gas sector. HA Tony Wood, Texas A&M University examines the new health, safety and environmental regulations and legislation affecting the industry following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Daniel Ross of Shell Canada Upstream, explores the potential for shale gas in western Canada. Elsewhere, Fady Chaban and Grant Gibson from Gate, LLC explain the importance of an enhanced waterflood regime in deepwater oil fields for increased oil recovery. These are but a few of the articles included in this edition and I would like to thank all the authors for their contributions.

We hope you will enjoy the edition.
