Cleaning Heat Exchangers with High- and Ultra-high-pressure Water

of working with high-pressure water and the increased legislation regarding safe working with high-pressure water, we can conclude that manual cleaning is becoming less and less popular. An added advantage of semi-automatic cleaning is the speed with which the tubes can be cleaned. Semi-automatic cleaning systems can sometimes be three to five times faster than cleaning by hand. Peinemann has been at the forefront promoting semi-automatic equipment and has developed a full range of equipment suitable for different needs (see Figure 7). Not only is semi-automatic cleaning safer, it also improves cleaning quality and therefore efficiency.


Cleaning heat exchangers poses special problems. Many times the work is carried out around the clock regardless of the weather. The bundles are not always in a convenient location; they can be vertical or horizontal (see Figure 8a and Figure 8b) and often need to be cleaned on an emergency basis.


Why


It is safer and more efficient. Heat exchangers require cleaning and the better the heat exchanger is cleaned, the more efficient it becomes. A properly cleaned heat exchanger will be more efficient, first, due to
