The Boom in the Czech Solar Thermal Market
On the other side, the turbulent development of the Act on Supported Energy Sources has surprisingly brought operational support for renewable heat installations for district heating with thermal capacity over 200 kW (biomass, solar) into the text during the last reading in parliament. There are still no reasons for optimism; the text of the Act will be processed in the Senate, and large cuts and additions are expected.
Conclusions
Despite the figures showing a solar boom in the Czech Republic today, the future of solar thermal support is unclear. The rapid increase, then the prompt ending, of renewable heat investment support within the framework of the Green Savings programme in 2010 had a negative impact on local solar thermal producers and installation companies, which have invested capital in significant development of production and storage capacity, and now there is a critically reduced demand for solar systems due to the lack of a subsidy scheme.
Considerable expectations of the public are focused on a continuation of Green Savings, or a similar national support programme, at least at a moderate rate of support. Continuation of the programme after

2013 could probably be financed through the revenues from auctioning emission allowances within the framework of the European Emissions Trading System. The main factor is future political will in a time of economic crisis. n
