Mechanical Technicians who have a responsibility for the maintenance of centrifugal, positive displacement and reciprocating pumps

Course Description
The course has been designed to provide knowledge and understanding of the principles of operation of various pumps along with the maintenance requirements including trouble shooting techniques.

An assessment will take place at the end of this course which must be passed in order to achieve the City & Guilds certificate.

Programme Objectives
At the end of the course the delegate will be able to:

• Explain the principles of operation of reciprocating pumps
• Explain the principles of operation of centrifugal pumps (single and multi-stage)
• Explain the principles of operation of positive displacement pumps ( gear, rotary, screw, diaphragm and vane)
• Understand the critical operating parameters to be monitored in order to assure performance
• Understand normal operating parameters and ranges
• Understand common faults and associated symptoms,
• Have a knowledge of seals and seals systems
• Strip and re-assemble a small single stage centrifugal pump
• Explain with the aid of an example a typical application for each of the above types of pump
• Explain the concept of static head in simple terms
