3M Everywhere – Your Processes Subsea Insulation, Buoyancy and Downhole Applications
3M Microspheres support many subsea oil and gas applications such as drilling, floating and mooring. The hollow glass microspheres give buoyancy and thermal insulation preventing hot oil from cooling, slowing and stopping. They are also used to produce low-density cements and muds for downhole applications. The hollow microspheres are crush resistant, reduce weight, increase strength and are non-reactive in subsea oil and gas applications.
Protecting Against Corrosion
3M corrosion protection products supply single, dual and primary coat multi-layer Scotchkote™ fusion bonded epoxy (FBE) powders for coating the outside and inside of underwater and buried pipelines against corrosion.
3M Scotchkote FBEs, liquid epoxy and liquid urethane are also used extensively for the anticorrosion coating of field joints and all types of tanks and pipe fittings. Scotchkote liquid epoxy resin and liquid urethane is finding a developing use in the pipeline rehabilitation market. In this field, the low temperature application capabilities of Scotchkote liquid urethane make it ideal for use in the harsh winters of Eastern Europe.
Also, a variety of 3M Scotchcast powdered resins are available for original equipment manufacturer (OEM) electrical insulation applications.
