Asbestos has been identified as the largest occupational health killer in the second half of the twentieth century. Three thousand people die each year in the UK from asbestos related illness. In a bid to tackle these staggering death rates, a new duty, under the Control of Asbestos At Work Regulations 2002 (CAW), came into force in May 2004, placing a duty on those with responsibilities for the repair and maintenance of non-domestic premises to:
- Identify the presence of asbestos
- Record and assess the condition of asbestos
- Assess and manage the risks
- Communicate risks to anyone likely to disturb the asbestos
Doing nothing is not an option. Those who fail to comply will run the risk of prosecution from the HSE, with possible imprisonment and/or unlimited fines.
We have the skills and capability to help you manage your CAW duty. We provide a full range of support from a one-off survey, condition monitoring, management of extensive remediation to site clearance and disposal.
All our work (survey, sampling and analysis) is carried out in accordance with UKAS requirements. We are accredited to UKAS as both an Inspection Body and Testing Laboratory. We also have certification to the quality standards ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
